Now that my child is learning how to read...

Now that your child is learning to read, here are a few tips to help them decode words and text.

When a child gets stuck remind them to:

    1. Look at the picture and think about the story.
    2. Go back and reread what they have just read.
    3. Get their lips ready for the beginning sound.
    4. Try the beginning sound and read to the end.
    5. Try it! Does it make sense?
    6. Does it look right?
    7.Does it sound right?

If it makes sense, looks right, and sounds right reread the word or sentence again for comprehension. If not, begin the steps again.
