Teacher Tips for School Success by Valerie Kloft

Prepare Your Child For School Each Day

Make certain your child gets a good nights sleep.

Children need between eight and ten hours of sleep each night. Establish a reasonable bedtime and stick to it. Your child must be alert to succeed in school.

Allow enough time in the mornings.

Your child should wake up early enough to wash, dress, eat, and leave home in a relaxed mood.

Make sure your child eats a nutritional breakfast.

Children cannot satisfy their intellectual needs if their physical needs have not been met.

Set up a special area to keep school items.

Have a special place to keep everything your child needs for the next day of school. Include a special place for your child to complete daily homework. Have all of the necessary supplies on hand. (glue sticks, scissors, sharpened pencils, and crayons).

Do not allow your child to be absent or late for school unless there is a medical reason or an emergency.

To succeed in school, your child must be in school. Children should stay home when they are sick but not on those "I don't want to go to school days."

Kiss and hug your child each morning.

Send your child off to school with a warm heart. Discuss your child's day with them when they return home. They will have a lot to share with you.

Remember that learning is a adventure that continues through out the day.

Your child is at school for 2 and one half hours a day. In order to be successful, your childs' education needs to continue at home. Work with your child daily on their letters, sounds, numbers, sight words, reading, etc.
